A linear arrangement using a single flower in a contemporary way. I did not have any agapanthus flowers so decided to use some dried agapanthus seed heads instead and spray painted them purple to add a pop of colour. These can be replaced if/when I find some fresh agapanthus flowers to use.

Equipment: large bowl, moss, oasis, frog (small holder to secure the oasis in place)

Flowers and Foliage: some tall twigs, 5 agapanthus flowers, a succulent in its pot, eucalyptus leaves. I also used some fynbos and leucadendron leaves from last week’s arrangement.

Step 1: Secure the oasis to the bowl using a small frog (tiny spikes to hold it in place). Add the succulent (keep it in the pot) and cover the whole lot with fresh moss.

Step 2: Position the tall twigs to define the height / space of the arrangement. A good rule of thumb to use is a vase : flower height ratio of 1 : 2.5 (ie. flowers up to 1.5 x the height of the vase).

Step 3: Start adding the agapanthus flowers, ideally in a straight line. You will need 4 or 5 of them, each one cut at a different height giving the effect of an agapanthus “pole”. Make sure you give each flower the space to open out fully.

Step 4: use the cut agapanthus stalks to create a geometric line / grouping of “stakes” to the side of the flowers.

Step 5: add the eucalyptus leaves. These are be used to balance the base of the arrangement and to link the flowers / stalks to the succulent.

My dried seed heads are less showy than the flowers, so I decided to use some of the fynbos and leucadendron leaves from last week to add more structure to the arrangement. It gives it better balance.

This is another design I love and will use often in the future. Agapanthus are some of my favourite flowers and this is a lovely way to use them.
