Autumn 22. Winter Foliage

Silver foliage and seed heads with a touch of colour

Equipment: raised urn vase, oasis

Foliage: anything silver. Silvered branches, eucalyptus leaves, convulvulus cneorum, twigs of lavender and curry plant, white and silver grasses. I added some faux mistletoe. White snow berries and poppy seed heads add a different texture.

Berries: A pop of red berries add the colour to the arrangement.

1) Soak the oasis and add it to the urn.

2) Use the longer stemmed foliage to define the framework of the arrangement: silver branches, the grass and snow berries.

3) Start filling in the foliage creating a β€œfan” arrangement within the framework, mixing up the different leaf types and textures and varying the height of the foliage. The objective is a casual unstructured arrangement.

4) Add the pop of colour as the last step. They should be assymetrical eg. 3 rather than 4 branches, and at different heights.

This creates a lovely winter-feel arrangement using foliage from the local parks and gardens. There is a surprising amount of it around at the moment. Mixing faux foliage in with this one works as well.
